Berkeley Homes propose to increase homes at Kidbrooke Village's next phase – now totalling 1,350

A scoping report has been submitted to Greenwich planners to increase the number of flats in Kidbrooke Village’s phase 3 by 107 units. This is the area beside the station.

Combined with other alterations, this means an overall increase of 117 flats above the consented figure of 1238 homes in phase 3 that was agreed in 2014. Here’s a screenshot:

It’s not the only big development coming at Kidbrooke. Just over the tracks is the site of TfL’s plan for 400 homes.

This comes shortly after Network Rail claimed just four additional carriages would be needed on the Kidbrooke line during the entire peak period by 2024 – a 5% increase – and the DfT were found out using vastly under-estimated housebuilding figure in their recent South Eastern rail franchise consultation.

Kidbrooke station planned to see only four extra carriages in seven years time

One suggestion that’s emerged in recent days is that new trains currently being constructed for South West Trains could move over to Southeastern after 2018.

The DfT have awarded a new South West rail franchise which will see replacement for trains that havn’t even entered service yet.

The only problem is that these trains, currently being built without a long-term home, are five carriages long. Couple them together and you get a train which is ten coaches, and that of course doesn’t utilise 12-carriage capable platforms recently built at a cost of millions.

They do have less seats so can carry more people, but it’s hardly a long term solution.
